How closely related is gum disease to having loose teeth?
One of the main reasons why some adults experience loose teeth is due to the result from other oral problems like gum disease. For this fact, it is very important to address the overall condition of the mouth if it is healthy or is undergoing trauma. How does gum disease start? What causes such a situation? For starters, gum infection or gingivitis is caused by bacteria and plaque buildup in the mouth.
Plaque is a substance coming from the food we eat and remains in our mouth. Each meal adds to the food particles accumulated in the mouth which is why we should regularly brush our teeth to prevent plaque growth. As the food particles stay in the mouth, these will react with saliva and settle on the gum line surrounding the teeth. Overtime this will harden and become tartar. Tartar is very hard to remove as it will stick to the teeth like corals to a rock. The only way to remove this is by dental prophylaxis or deep teeth cleaning done by a dentist.
Gum disease and loose teeth are truly related as the latter is caused by the former. If the tartar buildup is not prevented, it will continue to develop and will become heavy that the gum line will start to react by receding. As the gums recede, it will become very sensitive and will be susceptible to infections and abrasion. Just a slight rubbing by a toothbrush might trigger it to bleed and become swollen. If this happens, you already have gingivitis, the start of gum disease.
When the condition is not addressed immediately, its progression will lead to much serious complications. These in particular are bacterial infection and loose teeth. Periodontitis is a much worse case of gum disease. This is when the root of the tooth becomes infected with bacteria as it was able to enter through the gaps created by tartar. Eventually, the tooth will be extracted if the case cannot be helped and the structure that is supporting the teeth collapses.
Losing a tooth or a set of teeth is very painful even after it has been extracted. It will decrease your confidence to face people because you will not be able to smile. For this you will need to wear dentures which are really uncomfortable. Our dental health plays a vital part in our lives and the reason why we need to take of them from the start.
